She obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications with a minor in Political Science in 1986. Mary worked for Parkway as a cashier and later Assistant Manager at IGA before retiring to take care of her mother and beloved granddaughter, Christy Lorene Beets. Mary was an amateur theologian, studying all aspects of the Old and New Testaments. She attended church at Living Faith in Portales prior to the passing of the late Pastor Hugh Wallis. She loved to learn, research genealogy, and also enjoyed reading for fun. She will be remembered by her grandchildren for their many summer visits, her wonderful storytelling, her excellent writing, her beautiful penmanship, and her famous meatloaf. Her hobbies were crocheting, reading, and weaving.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her late husband, Oscar, and her daughter Kelley Renshaw. She is survived by her brothers Fred Reed, Jr. (Louise) of Tulsa and Jim Reed (Bonnie) of Portales; her daughters Kim Ragsdale (Harrold) of Tulsa, Christy Vines of The Woodlands, TX, and Caroll Beets of Tulsa; her grandchildren Stephanie Madrid (Louie), Justin Ragsdale, Samantha Renshaw Roth, Joseph Rogers (Curtis Gribble), Christopher Ragsdale, Dustin Beets (Andrea), Mindy Beets, Christy Beets (McKenna), and great grandchildren Kalee Rai Ragsdale, Annaleigh Metzger, Julienne Madrid, Easton Ragsdale, and James Beets.
