May Ruth (Cathey) Caddell

A funeral service for May Ruth Caddell, 86, of Portales will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, January 15, 2021 at the Generations Church with Todd Terry officiating.  Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Terry Winnett, Jonathan Pieratt, Jeremey Pieratt, Mark Winnett, Darren Winnett, David Winnett, Deborah Soules and Kenneth Winnett serving as pallbearers.

May Ruth Caddell was born on March 12, 1934 in Dalhart, Texas to the home of Jessie (Bryce) and Nolan C. Cathey, and died on January 12, 2021 in Portales.   She married Daniel Caddell on October 14, 1947 in Decatur, Texas.  May Ruth taught herself to sew and crochet and made clothing for her children.  She went to cosmetology school and owned a beauty shop.  She later started working as a nurse's aide and was trained to be a respiratory therapist.  She enjoyed spending time at church and reading her bible.  She especially loved spending time with her grandkids.

She is survived by her husband, Daniel Caddell; her daughter, Beverly Winnett and husband Royce; ten grandchildren, Terry Winnett, Jonathan Pieratt, Jeremey Pieratt, Mark Winnett, Darren Winnett, David Winnett, Deborah Soules, Kenneth Winnett, Damien Caddell and Shauna Caddell; nineteen great grandchildren; ten great-great grandchildren; a brother, Bob Cathey and wife Buna; numerous nieces, nephews and friends, and special family friends, Pearson Cummings and Gloria Cummings.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Daniel Wayland Caddell, brothers, N.C. Cathey, Jr., Wendell Cathey and James Cathey, and a grangchild, Karen Caddell.
