Michael Delbert Schattschneider was born Nov. 21, 1979 in Artesia, NM to the home of Elizabeth Ann (Cooper) and Michael Glen Schattschneider, and passed from this life in Lubbock, TX on July 21, 2025. Michael’s early years were in Artesia, but while he was still in school, he moved to House, NM to live with his dad. While in high school, he played basketball. Michael graduated from House High School in 1998, and he and his best friend decided to go to Wyoming Tech to become diesel mechanics. For approximately fifteen years, Michael worked at Truck Stops of America in Santa Rosa, NM. He was a very generous and tender-hearted man. That tender heart meant that he brought home every stray dog. But it also included people. He often helped people who were stranded with needed money or repairs to get them to where they were going.
He loved to be outdoors, and loved hunting and fishing and trapping. He looked forward to his annual hunting trips with his PaPa, Tom Hill. He enjoyed watching basketball and baseball, and was a big fan of the University of North Carolina basketball team. Michael also held very strong opinions, and you were never left in the dark about what he thought about something.
He is survived by five children, Cody Schattschneider and Jerry Schattschneider both of Santa Rosa, NM, Michael Blake Schattschneider of Clovis, NM, Sydney Higgins and Stormy Schattschneider also of Santa Rosa, NM; his mother and step-father, Elizabeth and Jerry Williams of Portales; two brothers, Cody Schattschneider and Jory Pinkerton of Portales and a sister and brother-in-law, Samantha and Neal Cornell of Mt. Washington, KY; one niece, Whitley Pinkerton and two nephews, Waylon Cornell and Colter Schattschneider. He was preceded in death by his father Michael Glen Schattschneider on May 25, 2017.
