Michael David Winter was born Sept. 17, 1952 in Hatch, NM to the home of Delaney Bell (Spencer) and John Monroe Winter, and passed from this life on the evening of Feb. 25, 2026 in Clovis following a brief illness. For the first years of his working life, Mike, as he was known, worked on a ranch at Hatch. His family moved to Elida in 1985. and for 23 years he worked at the local feed store. When he went to work there it he worked for Greg Smith and the store was G-13, and by the time he retired the store was owned by Billy Frank Good and was known as Good Feed Store. Mike had an amazing ability to retain detail. He could tell you exactly where a product was and the price off the top of his head.
In addition to the store, he was the lawn mower repair man, and local handyman. Through the years he had amassed a large inventory of parts, and could almost always be counted on to have what you needed. Mike was a very quiet man for the majority of his life, but following his cancer diagnosis in December of 2025, he suddenly became very open and conversational. He was a member of the Elida Baptist Church.
He is survived by three sisters, Mary Winter of Albuquerque, Hazel Winter of Silver City and Margaret Winter of Elida; as well as his nieces and nephews, including Tina Dixon, Michelle Dimmitt, Annette Richards and Sean Belden. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Charley and Patrick Winter and two sisters, Corina Winter and Rosie McKinney.
