Nancy Nials Obituary

The family of Nancy Nials, 84, of Portales will receive family and friends from 4:30 to 6:00 PM on Monday, May 18, 2026, at Central Christian Church.   A Memorial service will follow at 6:30 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses on East Third Street in Portales.

Nancy Lou Nials was born Sept. 4, 1941 in Champaign, IL to the home of Anna Lendell (Robinson) and Albert Cushing Wallace and passed from this life on the evening of April 26, 2026 at her home in Portales.  When she was in the 4th grade, her father was transferred to Roswell, NM where she spent the remainder of her youth.  Nancy was a 1959 graduate of Roswell High School, and went on to earn a degree in Biology and Geology from Eastern New Mexico University.  For several years she did Fire Patrol at the Grand Canyon National Park.  After moving back to Portales, she began teaching Geology Labs at ENMU.  In the mid 1980's, she became a librarian in the University Library, and retired after 20 years.  She was a devoted and active member in the local congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.  She enjoyed flower gardening, and doing needle point and sewing.

She is survived by a son, Andy Nials and his life companion, Carol Dickenson and a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Mike Cone all of Portales; three grandchildren, Mikaela Cone and her life companion, Bradly Johnson, Koby and Jessica Cone and Haley Dockter; and a sister, Sandy Stroud of Cree Coeur, IL.  She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Albert and Lee Wallace.
