Nancy Lou (Sanderson) Tivis

Funeral services for Nancy Tivis, 81, of Portales, will be held at 10:00 AM, Thurs., Oct. 29, 2020 at Trinity Assembly of God Church in Portales, with Pastor Kelly Fulfer officiating, assisted by Nancy's son, Tim Tivis and Mark Christian.  Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Gary Fields, Darwin Culpepper, Duane Chase, Ron Jackson, Brandon Tivis and Jordan Tivis serving as pallbearers.  All of her close friends will be honorary pallbearers.  Tim and his family will receive guests at the funeral home on Wed. evening from 6 to 8 PM.

Nancy Lou Tivis was born July 29, 1939 in Clovis, NM to the home of Anna Elizabeth (McCathern) and Lloyd Monroe Sanderson, and died Oct. 24, 2020 in Las Cruces, NM.  Nancy lived her entire life in Portales, and graduated from Portales High School in 1957.  On Sept. 14, 1957, she was married to J. R. Tivis.  Nancy was a lifelong member of the Assembly of God Church. Music was her passion, and she loved to play the piano and sing, especially to sing praise to the Lord.  Nancy regularly played and entertained at the local nursing home.  She was active in the ADY (Aint Done Yet) group at the church.  For many years she worked at the Portales National Bank which is now the James K. Polk Community Bank.  Nancy loved clothes and shoes and cosmetics, and for the past several years she has owned and operated the Fashion Girl clothing store and Merle Norman Cosmetic Studio, as well as Tivis Tax and Bookkeeping Service.  It was her great joy to help her customers find just the right cosmetic products, clothes and accessories in her store.  However, her greatest pleasure came from being with her son, her grandchildren, and her many dear friends.

Nancy is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Jodi Tivis of Lubbock, TX; two grandsons, Brandon (Alyssa) Tivis and Jordan Tivis and his fiance, Joanna Strittmatter; two great-grandchildren, Emmerson Jane and Charlotte Ann Tivis; and two sisters, Wanda Smart of Leesville, LA and Doris Hapke of Yukon, OK.  She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, J. A. "Sonny" Sanderson and by her beloved husband, J. R. Tivis who died Oct. 31, 2016.
