Nehemiah Isaac Montano

Funeral services for Nehemiah I. Montano, 15, will be held at 2:00 PM, Thurs., Mar. 16, 2023 at the First Apostolic Lighthouse Church in Portales, with Pastor Walter F. Moore officiating.  Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Gabriel Montano, Ronnie Montano, Xzavier Montano, Zachariah Bell, Mark Montano and Jonathan Montano serving as pallbearers.  Angelina Montano, , Keeyani Rodriguez, Adrian Montano, Brenden Villanueva, Landon Villanueva and Leilani Montano along with all of his many friends will be honorary pallbearers.

Nehemiah Isaac Montano was born Aug. 9, 2007 in Clovis to Isaac Montano III and Florentina Carrillo Villegas, and died Mar. 10, 2023 in Portales.  While he was a younger boy, he played Little League Baseball and Basketball.  He also played on the Gators Little League Football team, and had the nickname of “The Beast.”  Nehemiah was currently a Sophomore at Portales High School.  He was a people person, and always had lots of friends around him.  He loved hip hop and rap music.  Nehemiah enjoyed drawing and was always ready to go fishing with his brothers or friends.  He had a great sense of humor.  While he was temporarily in Lovington, he was baptized.  An organization is now being formed in Nehemiah’s honor to educate against gun violence.  He was a member of the First Apostolic Lighthouse Church.

Nehemiah is survived by his parents, Isaac Montano of Portales, Florentina Carrillo of Abilene, TX and Bernice and Roberto Vargas of Portales; four brothers, Ronnie Montano and Gabriel Montano of Portales, Maxwell Yokum of Austin, TX and Javier Balbuena of Midland, TX; five sisters, Jessica Aguilar of Portales, Johana Ann Renee Montano of Bowie, TX, Yetzelle A. Balbuena of Midland, TX, Keeyani S. Rodriguez of Clovis, Angelina R. Montano Lubbock, TX; his very close cousins,  Serina Aguilar and Sierra Tijerina of Portales, Luciano Sotelo of Albuquerque and Xzavier Montano of Portales; his grandparents, Magdalena Rodriguez, Rita Torres and Isaac Montano, Jr. of Portales and his great-grandparents, Irene and John Campbell of Portales.
