Odena Lois Turner was born Aug. 31, 1936 in Floyd to the home of Verna Mae (Hawkins) and John Feland, and died at her home on Jan. 31, 2024. Mrs. Turner grew up in Floyd, and graduated from high school there in 1954. While she was attending the county fair, she met her future husband, Johnny Lee Turner. They were married on Nov. 10, 1956. For the first few years of their marriage, they made their home in a small travel trailer following his road work. About 1961, they decided it was time to settle in one place so their daughter could have a stable place to grow up. After Mr. Turner established his own plumbing business, Mrs. Turner acted as his receptionist and secretary as well as the bookkeeper.
All of her life Odena was a caregiver. Constantly taking care of her home and family. When Mr. Turner's health began to decline, she cared for him until his death. Later, when her daughter became ill, she cared for her. She was an excellent cook, and enjoyed baking special treats for her family. Mrs. Turner was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Diane Turner of Portales; and two brothers, Calvin Feland of Clovis and Carol Feland of Amarillo. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Daryl, two sisters, Ruby and Ruth, a daughter, Mary Ann Perales, and by her beloved husband, Johnny who died July 16, 2020.
