Obituary

A Celebration of Life service for Pat Dodd, of Colorado Springs, CO is scheduled for Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at 2:00 pm, Trinity Church, 601 S. Avenue B, Portales, NM with Pastor Kelly Fulfer officiating. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery.

Patricia (Pat) Dodd, passed away peacefully while taking an afternoon nap at home on August 18, 2023, at the age of 81.  She was born to Fred Jessamine Frazier and Susana Ofelia Richards on May 24, 1942, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Pat grew up in Albuquerque with her 5 siblings and graduated from Rio Grande High School in 1960.

She married Alan on October 6, 1961, and they were married for 61 years. While in Albuquerque she worked in retail, at the Social Security Office and as a bookkeeper before being hired at the UNM Med School as a secretary for a research doctor. When she and Alan moved their family to Portales, NM, in 1979, she began working at Eastern New Mexico University where she held several positions in Student Affairs and in the Student Accounts Office. She loved working with students and was loved by many of them in return along with her many co-workers over the years.

She became a Christian along with Alan in the early years of their marriage. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she was fiercely devoted to her family. Active in the churches they attended over the years, she especially loved the many small groups they were a part of. Pat was steadfast in her faith and her family knows with certainty that she is in heaven with Jesus.

She was a cherished wife and mother, known to many as a loving friend, gardener, wonderful cook (voted best red chili maker in NM by her whole family), a seamstress, barber, singer, avid reader and an enthusiastic fan in the stands of her sons’ many baseball games and tennis matches. She rarely stopped moving, could fix almost anything, loved to iron clothes, crocheted countless treasured gifts, loved to talk on the phone to those she loved, and loved birds. She would get sick riding amusement park rides but somehow found the courage to go skydiving with Alan for their 50th wedding anniversary. She loved all without reserve and many lives were enriched by her life and loving smile. To her family, she was their beloved Mimi and she gave them a lifetime of wonderful memories to treasure.

She is survived by her husband, Barry Alan Dodd, her children, Laura Ham (Michael), David Dodd (Amanda), Matthew Dodd (Krystle), Step-Son Rick Chadwick, grandchildren Rachael MacPhee (Drew), Rabekah Smail (Mitch), Shiloh Broadway (Rusti), Kristin Westbrook (Tyler), Seth Ham (Amara), Keenan Dodd (Shannia), Cameron Dodd, Thadeus Dodd, Edda Dodd, Benjamin Boren, Nicholas Chadwick (Brenda), and Nathaniel Chadwick (Christina), and twelve

wonderful great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two of her sisters-in-law, Marie Frazier and Norma Frazier along with her dear cousin Dorothy Kimbro (Don) and numerous nieces and nephews all of whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved siblings Virginia Edwards, Andrew Frazier, Fred “Buddy” Frazier, Etta Skinner and Jerry Frazier.
