Funeral services for Rex Weir, 80, of the Causey/Rogers community, will be held at 10:00 AM, Sat., Sept. 9, 2023 in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Don Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with his grandchildren, Andrew Schaap, Tommy Alger, Steven Schaap, Austin Schaap, Kayla Alger, Kambrey Blakey, Lindsay Blakey and Mattison Blakey serving as pallbearers. The family will receive guests at the funeral home on Fri. evening from 5 to 7 PM.
Rex Lynn Weir was born Nov. 4, 1942, in Dallas, TX to the home of Loree Mayna (Carmichael) and Vernie Louis Weir and died Aug. 31, 2023 in Lubbock, TX. When Rex was a small child, the family moved to Lamesa, TX, and then for a short time to Elida, before settling in the Causey community in the late 1940’s. Rex grew up working on the farm with his father, and continued to farm and ranch all his life. He was a 1961 graduate of the Causey High School. In El Paso, TX, on Oct. 27, 1963, he was married to Martha Jane Doty. The couple had two daughters. Rex’s family and working on the farm were his life. Besides working, he never missed a ballgame for one of his children or grandchildren. Rex was a lifelong member of the Causey Church of Christ.
He is survived by Martha, his wife of almost 60 years of their home; his daughters and son-in-laws, Sandi and Larry Blakey of Portales and Sherri and Eddie Schaap of Clovis; his grandchildren, Andrew Schaap, Kayla and Tommy Alger, Steven Schaap, Austin and Airen Schaap, Kambrey Blakey, Lindsay Blakey and Mattison Blakey; and eight great-grandchildren, Thomas, Cornelia, and Gerrit Alger, and Jackson, Holland, Willem, Anja and Henrik Schaap; as well as a number of other family members and his many friends.
