Richard Schaap

Richard Schaap, 79, was born in a village called Terkaple, province of Friesland, the Netherlands, to Sjoukje (Shirley) Kleefstra and Ids Sijbe Schaap on March 22, 1944.  He passed from this life on the morning of June 20, 2023, in Portales, New Mexico.

Richard was the last of five children.  Richard immigrated to the United States with his parents and siblings in 1947.  They settled in the Norwalk, California area where his father was in the dairy business.  Richard was also involved in the dairy business in California and Texas and later retired from it.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Fred Schaap, and sisters, Mary (Hugo) Goedhart, and Jennie (Louie) Sytsma.  Richard is survived by his daughter Jeanette Callison (Hanford, CA); sons, John Schaap (Visalia, CA), Tom Schaap (Tipton, CA), Rick Schaap (Hobbs, NM), Brian Schaap (Portland, OR); and brother, Andy (Ria) Schaap (Clovis, NM).  Richard has several grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
