Rosalie (Brakebill) Burney

Funeral services for Rosalie Burney, 84, of Portales will be held at 10:00 AM, Thurs., Mar. 4, 2021 at Central Christian Church with Don Thomas officiating.  Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery with Justin Davis, Tyler Davis, Richard Carter, Gabe Smith, Colby Dodson, Dallas Tivis and Zachary Madrid serving as pallbearers.  The staff of Good Life Assisted Living Center along with all of her friends will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Rosalie Burney was born April 15, 1936, in southern Roosevelt County to the home of Jonnie (Stroud) and John David Brakebill, and died Feb. 28, 2021 in Portales, NM.  In 1950, she was married to Max Davis.  They moved to California for a time before returning to Portales.  They later moved to Borger, TX.  After the couple divorced, Rosalie moved to Lubbock.  On Feb. 9, 1974, in Lubbock, she was married to Joe Rue Burney.  She continued to make her home in Lubbock until Dec. of 2020, when she moved to Portales to make her home at Good Life Assisted Living Center.

Rosalie worked as a teller at several banks in Portales, Borger and Lubbock.  In her spare time she enjoyed making candles and breeding Chihuahua dogs.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Glen and Susie Davis of Portales; a daughter/granddaughter Jennifer Burney; six grandchildren, Richard Carter, Carrie (Kurt) Stueber, Kristy (Kie) Tivis, Justin (Nieves) Davis and Tyler Davis; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Warren Brakebill of Portales and Kenneth Brakebill of Yamhill, OR; and a sister, Janice Hatch of Denver, CO.  She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Gary and Douglas Brakebill, a sister, Donna Marie Weems, two daughters, Gail Lorance and Judy Dotson, a grandson, Travis Dotson Burney, a great-grandchild, Bailee Tivis and by both her first husband, Max Davis and by Mr. Burney who died Feb. 13, 2020.
