Ruben DeLeon Zapata

Ruben DeLeon Zapata was born Feb. 18, 1960 in Del Rio, TX to the home of Inez (DeLeon) and Jose R Zapata and died at his home in Portales on the evening of Mar. 26, 2025.

Mr. Zapata grew up in the Hereford area where he and his family worked in the fields at harvest time.  In about 2010 he moved to Plainview where he made his home for about ten years.  For the past four years he has made his home in Portales.  Ruben loved to be outdoors working on cars or doing gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Isabel Zapata of the home; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Ruben R. and Angelica Zapata of Portales, Fernando Zapata of Amarillo, TX and Joe and Angelica Zapata of Abilene, TX; a daughter, Mary Zapata of Hereford, TX; two brothers, Ramiro Zapata of Espanola, NM and Robert Zapata of Wichita, TX; and three sisters, Yolanda Remijo of San Angelo, TX, Becky Zapata of Plainview, TX and Edelmira Zapata of Augusta, GA.  He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters, Margarita Montanez, Teresa Guerra, Martina Zapata and Sylvia Zapata.
