Shirley Ann (Cosper) Clingenpeel

Funeral services for Shirley Ann Clingenpeel, 87, of Portales will be held at 10:00 A.M., on Thursday, May 4, 2023, in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Don Thomas officiating.  Burial will follow in the Causey Cemetery with C.W. Cathey, Jerry Cathey, Dusty Cathey, Colby Croslin, Tim Southard and Chance Southard serving as pallbearers.

Shirley Ann (Cosper) Clingenpeel was born on February 21, 1936, in Childress, Texas, to the home of Helen Margaret (Netzel) and John Henry Cosper, and died on April 28, 2023, Portales, New Mexico.

Shirley attended elementary school in Portales and later attended Dora High School.  She graduated from Causey High School in 1954 as Salutatorian.  Shirley married Wendell Cathey on March 31, 1955 and they later divorced.  She later married John Miller and he passed away on October 5, 1981.  On December 31, 1982, she married Jerry Clingenpeel; he passed away on May 23, 2005.

Shirley was a talented artist and often won awards at the Roosevelt County Fair up until the past few years.  She loved fishing, dancing and garage sales.  She would always have an open home to anyone who may need a warm meal.  She especially loved to spoil her grandchildren.  She will be missed by all of her family and friends.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Laura Dale Reynolds & husband Rick of Portales; her son, Mitchell Wayne “Rooster” Cathey & wife Rhnea of Canyon; five grandchildren, Cody Steffen, Christopher Steffen, Chance Southard, Staci Croslin and C.W. Cathey; numerous great grandchildren, and her dog Bella.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Jimmie Cosper, and a grandson, Slade Southard.
