Twyla Montano Obituary

Funeral services for Twyla Montano, 54, of Portales, will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, December 2, 2022, in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Brad Morgan officiating.  Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with R.J. Berry, Staniel Bagby, Aidan Berry, Vincent Sanchez, Jesse Sanchez and Joe Sanchez serving as pallbearers.  Noah Parks, Braxton Berry and Adam Cater will be honorary pallbearers.  The family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M. on Thursday at Wheeler Mortuary.

Twyla Ann (Parks) Montano was born June 17, 1968 in Redlands, California to Patricia Ann (Brady) and Charles Paul Parks and passed away on November 26, 2022, in Lubbock, Texas.

Twyla grew up in Artesia and graduated from Artesia High School.  She received her Nursing Degree from Clovis Community College.  She had dreamed of becoming a nurse since she was nine years old.  She worked for Heartland Continuing Care Center in Portales and then worked at Roosevelt General Hospital for eighteen years.  She later worked at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis.  Nursing and caring for others was her passion.

On June 7, 2015 in Clovis, she was married to Edward Montano, the man she said she had prayed for.  Twyla enjoyed shopping for herself as well as for her family.  She referred to that activity as "Retail Therapy."  She also loved to ride motorcycles out in the country.  Twyla had a very strong faith in God, and had told her husband, that although she loved him dearly, he came after her Lord, Jesus.  Jesus was her “Rock.”  She deeply loved her family, and was especially devoted to her grandchildren.  In fact, she had delivered one of her great-grandchildren just two weeks ago.

Mrs. Montano was adept at many things.  She personally built a large portion of her home, and enjoyed doing maintenance herself.  Her preference in decorating it was with rustic furniture.  She particularly liked a picture of the Last Supper she and her husband had purchased on one of their outings.  Twyla recently told her husband she had accomplished everything in life she had set out to do.

Twyla is survived by her husband Edward Montano of their home; her sons, R.J. Berry and wife Tayler of Roswell, NM, Damon Montano of Tampa, FL and Troy Montano of Jackson, MO; her daughters, Charity Bagby and husband Staniel  of Portales, Amanda Cater and husband Rusty of Elida, Rhonda Berry and Alyssa Johnson and husband Brennen of Portales, Sabrina Schaab and husband Dan of Jefferson City, MO, and Bonnie Montano, Nicole Noce and Rebecca Montano all of Jackson, MO; 29 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; her parents, Charles and Patricia Parks, and a sister, Wilma Parks Perez and husband, John all of Fontana, CA.  She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Parks, II.

Twyla was greatly loved by her friends, family, colleagues, all who met her, and most especially by her husband.
